Sedona, Arizona

SHADOW of the blackening, kin to the Raven’s Head, who governeth the gloom that storm lays across the land. He appeareth as a great pale temple of stone standing firm beneath a sky boiling dark, a single shaft of light let through to touch the rock while all around the heavens are cast into shadow. His office is the obtenebration, the darkening: to gather the cloud into a roof of slate over the bright world, and to choose where the light shall fall and where it shall be withheld. The white wood burns bright in the near field where the light still reaches it; the temple stands gray and patient between the dark sky and the dark forest, lit for a moment as if chosen.
