Cataracta Candens

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

FURY of falling water, and the strange cousin of the Water of Shadow; for where the still spirit drinks all light and turns to ink, this one throws all light and turns to white fire. He appeareth a column of white thunder loosed between walls of burning forest, falling without rest into a pool that will not redden. His office is to break the water against the air, that what was dark and still should become white and wild; the more violently he falls, the brighter he burns, and he is silent only where he has not yet leapt. The blood-red wood crowds close on either hand to watch him fall, and cannot follow.
